What I Ate Wednesday #5

Happy Wednesday! Today is my Friday but I’ve got a full day of work ahead of me… I hope I get it all done plus pack! Aahhh.. just thinking about my to-do list is stressing me out!

This week’s What I Ate Wednesday features two firsts… let’s see if you can spot them!

For breakfast, I had a hard-boiled egg, some fruit, and a slice of toast with strawberry spread.

For my morning snack, I had a homemade almond cranberry pumpkin protein bar while working… I think it’s lacking a little bit of flavour, but if I can get the recipe right, I’ll post it on here.

The boy was off today, and because I had evening plans, I decided to make a nicer lunch for us.  I prepped the cedar plan salmon, veggies, and cilantro lime quinoa, and he  watched the grill while I worked.

One of my friends and I went to a movie theatre for the screening of Magic Mike. We waited in line {had some snacks}, and waited in 100F+ weather! Even though we got there 2 hours early (!!), there were still about 100 people ahead of us in line after the theatre was full. I guess I’ll have to wait a little longer to watch it.

After we didn’t get in, we were on our way home when the boy asked if I had had dinner, and we decided to meet at the new BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse. By the time we got our food, we were STARRRRVING! I try not to let myself get that hungry because then my stomach feels like it’s bottomless.

My friend and I both have Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis and are both gluten-free. We had the same salad – BBQ Chicken Chopped salad without the onion strips and with the dressing on the side {mine without tomatoes, hers without corn}. For dessert, we shared the Gluten-Free Chocolate Chip Pizookie, and let me tell you, it just melted in my mouth! It didn’t taste like it was gluten-free! I already love the gluten-free stuff at BJ’s and now I’m in BIG trouble with this dessert!!

As I mentioned earlier this week, I’m going to be traveling for the next week, but I’m still going to try to post as if I were in Texas!

Did you figure out what 2 firsts were on this post?

What’s your favourite dessert?

Marvelous in my Monday

I hope you had a good weekend. The weekend started off great for me as the boy came home after almost 4 weeks of being away!

Although I’m super glad that the boy is home, I’m not sure that Eddie was. He was “talking back” to the boy when being told to get off a table. I managed to get some on video, and trust me when I tell you he was meowing so much more when he wasn’t on video.

On Saturday, the boy and I ran some errands, and then we met up with some friends out at Lustre Pearl downtown. It wasn’t too hot so we had a good time.

On Sunday, we didn’t do a whole lot and before we knew it, it was Monday!

On Monday morning, I got some great news: I would be able to go to Toronto on Thursday with the boy as originally planned. My boss had told me on Friday that I was going to have to go to DC from Tuesday until Friday morning, but he canceled at my trip at my request. I called my mom and sister to let them know I’d be arriving on Thursday after all, and we made plans to have dinner to celebrate Father’s day that evening.

After a busy day at work, I met up with my running buddies for dinner to celebrate a belated birthday. It was so great to see them since I haven’t seen them in what feels like forever, even though it hasn’t even been 3 weeks.

Getting to go home on Thursday and seeing my friends was what was Marvelous in My Monday!

I hope you had a good start to the week!

Five Things – Games

I meant to post this yesterday but I just didn’t have time. Work was hectic and a little stressful, but it’s the weekend at last, and the boy is home!! :D

During my spare time this week, I’ve been playing games. I’ll admit that my sleep has suffered because I can’t put them down, but they have helped pass the time! So this week, I bring you 4 games I’ve been playing and one that I cannot WAIT to play!

  1. Where’s My Water? {A physics game where you must figure out a way to get the water to the alligator so he can take a bath} I saw this app featured in the App store earlier this week and got it. The Alligator is super cute when he gets impatient!
  2. Bubble Safari {Connect 3 balls of the same colour to clear them, you must clear 10 bubbles from the roof to pass to the next level} My friend and cousin sent me an invite on FB this week and I absolutely love the “bust-a-move” type of games.. so I’m hooked! Too bad the energy runs out real quick.
  3. 100 Floors {Solve the puzzle on each floor to get to the next one. You can solve up to the 90th floor right now} The boy introduced me to this game before he left. We got a new update this week.. I’m currently stuck on 84 right now.
  4. Super Mario 3D Land – I never finished Super Mario Land 3D, so I was also playing this game this week. I’m on the special level quickly approaching World 8. I never want to finish Mario games… {image via}
  5. Super Mario Bros. U – I CANNOT wait for the Wii U to come out… I’m super excited! I can already see my sister & I continuing the tradition of playing video games during our Christmas vacation.. hopefully she’ll come and visit us this year.. not particularly excited about going to Canada in the winter ;) {image via}

What type of games do you like to play?

Have a fabulous weekend!!

What I Ate Wednesday #4

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a good weekend :) Mine was pretty busy with celebrating a couple of friends’ birthdays. I will admit that my eating wasn’t close to perfect, but after eating clean for weeks, when I had chips, I felt like I was eating air; it was not filling me up! I was used to having protein not just carbs. I felt much better once I had a bun-less burger! Lesson learned :) On Sunday, I was back to clean eating and felt MUCH better!

Without further ado, here’s what I ate yesterday.

For breakfast, I had a slice of gluten-free bread with low sugar strawberry spread, plain Greek yogurt with blueberries, apple chunks, ground flax seed, and chia seeds.

I went to Aqua Fitness in the morning, and after my shower, it was almost noon already, so I had a small snack which consisted of almonds and craisins {dried cranberries}

Having had chicken twice on Monday, I wanted something different. Hard boiled eggs came to mind and I wanted an egg salad wrap. The salad consisted of shredded carrots, red bell pepper, celery,and jalapeños mixed with plain Greek yogurt instead of mayonnaise. I had edamame on the side.

My friend came over for dinner; I prepped dinner while we chatted. I made Jerk Chicken with Stuffed Mini Bell Peppers from The May  issue of Cooking Light. I didn’t add the serrano chile as my friend doesn’t like spicy foods, but it was still delicious!

After dinner, we watched Journey 2: The Mysterious Island which was a little on the cheesy side, but it was a nice light movie for a weeknight.

As you may have noticed, I missed my afternoon snack :( I went to grab stuff for dinner from the grocery store, and then my friend got to the house shortly after I arrived, so I started dinner, and didn’t want to ruin my appetite. However, when I was at the store, I brought some brown rice cakes which I’ll try today with almond butter.

Have you tried any new snacks lately?

Five Things – Broken Toe Edition

This week started off well.. and then my clumsy self had to take over. Perhaps it was karma, or maybe that I’d been complaining to myself about body parts I disliked, not appreciating the ones that were doing really well. Either way, not being able to run has given me an appreciation for things that I wouldn’t have even tried. Here are 5 things that made my week fly by!

  1. I saw this quote on Tumblr on Tuesday morning when I still felt very broken-hearted that I couldn’t run, and it helped me put things into perspective.
  2. On Saturday, I learned how to use the grill and continued to grill during the week. It allowed me to just put things on the grill and not have to stand over a stove much (via)
  3. I attended two Aqua Fitness classes this week which actually felt great. The weights the instructor chose for me made for a very challenging workout. Being in the water is always so relaxing. (via)
  4. A couple of people recommended Pilates as a workout which would keep me off my feet and I tried Pop Pilates from Blogilates this week.. Cassey’s awesome and  super bubbly. I will be incorporating her workouts even when my toe is fully healed!
  5. My BadKitty hasn’t been as bad.. sure, he’s been knocking the dirty laundry hamper every day, but he’s actually been pretty good this week. It may have something to do with the fact that I’m not chasing him around saying “give mama a kiss” {which makes him run as if I’m trying to kill him} but I think both kitties know something is wrong. I’m totally appreciative of his niceness :)

What was something that made your week easier?

Have a great weekend!
