My apologies for the delay of this post. I was hoping to have it up last week, but we were so busy during the week that I just didn’t have time.
Day 8: St Kitts
The boy really wanted to go zip lining, so we decided St. Kitts would be the place. I’m afraid of heights but have previously been zip lining three times. Once in New Hampshire when I still lived in Boston, and twice the Austin area. NH was the hardest one for me, but I also figured out what works for me so I’m able to go zip lining.
This time, it wasn’t scary; we would sit on our harnesses, so they would just let us go; we didn’t have to walk off a platform. We didn’t take any photos of us zip lining because the boy forgot the camera strap and he didn’t want to drop it. Once we were done, we saw a guy with a baby Vervet monkey and we had to take photos with it.
We got back to the ship early as this was a short excursion, and we went to play Win Lose or Draw. It turns out that my wacky brain is good for figuring out the diagrams. I guess all those times I used to play Draw Something came in handy! Other activities we did on the ship were Trivia, going to the casino, and going to the comedy shows. I forgot to mention in my last post that on on Thursday, the casino had a Blackjack Tournament, and the boy got 2nd place!
Day 9 – St. Maarten / St. Martin – Our last full day on the ship.
The boy and I went to separate excursions; he went scuba diving and I went on a tour of the island. The boy and I are both certified to scuba dive, but we hadn’t been scuba diving in over a year, and I didn’t feel comfortable doing it. Scuba diving scares me to begin with; I don’t like being dependent on an apparatus to breathe or being 60 or more feet under water. So I got to see both the Dutch and French sides of the island.
We went shopping for a little bit, and basically I was just sightseeing. It was pretty cool that in the French side, they use Euros as their currency. We headed back to the ship. I met the boy there and we had lunch. We then went back to downtown Phillipsburg via water taxi. I didn’t realize that the beach was right there, or I would’ve worn a bathing suit.
It was too hot for me, so we headed back to the ship.
In the evening, we had dinner, we packed, we went to the draw for a 7 day cruise… we didn’t win :( We went to a comedy show.
Day 10: San Juan
We had breakfast and then we debarked and headed to a bus so we could go on a rainforest tour.
It was amazing to learn about the rainforest and get to see some aspects of it. I wish we could’ve seen more bugs or birds, but we did see lots of different plants and trees.
After the tour, we checked into hotel. We had a much nicer view this time
We didn’t do much the rest of the day. The boy took a long nap, and by the time he woke up, it was already dark outside, so we just had dinner at the hotel.
The next morning, we headed to the airport and flew back to Austin via Ft Lauderdale. I’m so glad we got to go on a cruise and visit different islands. We’d love to go back to Barbados and St. Maarten. St. Thomas was also great and it had so many activities we could do. The boy and I aren’t the type of people that can just sit out on a beach.
We had an amazing time, so but I was glad to be home.
Where would you like to go on vacation that you’ve never been?
