WIAW #29 – The Lyn-Genet Plan Edition

Hello again, friends! I tend to neglect my poor li’l blog when I’m busy, but I finally took some photos for WIAW hosted by Jenn from Peas and Crayons.

Now that we got the Austin Half Marathon out of the way, I finally decided to start the Lyn-Genet Plan — a plan to help you find foods reactive to your body. These foods cause inflammation, resulting in weight gain. I posted about the Plan shortly after I had met Lyn-Genet Recitas in Houston.

Yesterday was day 3 of the phase 1 {detox}. The first two days were rough with the first day being worse than the second. On the first day, I suffered from lethargy, difficulty sleeping at night, and a headache that continued through to day 2. The second day, I felt lethargic up until dinner time, then I felt fine. I had a difficult time falling asleep, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as the first night.

Back to the food… I’ve had almost the same breakfast for the first 3 days.

For lunch, I got to have a different soup than the prior 2 days

Yesterday, we tested almonds and I passed, which meant I got to have some as a snack today

In the evening, the fiancé complained that since I’ve been “eating healthy,” he’s been “forced to eat junk.” Just for the record, he’s been offered what I’ve had for my meals, but since they’ve consisted of mostly vegetables, he has declined my offers. Yesterday, he finally agreed to have some.

As far as side effects went, I didn’t suffer any on day 3. I’ll keep you guys posted in regards to what foods I end up having reactions to. Before I started the plan, I wrote down what I thought I might be reactive to:

  • Gluten
  • Dairy {including Greek Yogurt}
  • Peanuts
  • Strawberries

It will be interesting to find out what I actually am reactive to.

WIAW #28 – Last Quality Run Edition

Welcome to another What I Ate Wednesday! This past week has flown by… we’ve been really busy with the last of half marathon training and house hunting.

Yesterday was a rainy morning, and I debated whether I should have my usual Greek yogurt with toppings, or if I should have oatmeal.

Before I knew it, it was time to go to my physical therapy appointment… I’ve been having issues with my calves ever since I switched shoes, so the doctor worked on some knots in my calves, I did some Trigger Point therapy, and then iced my calves while they got electric stimulation. I was starrrving and hadn’t made plans for lunch, plus I knew we were going out to dinner, so I had to eat some veggies. I stopped at Wendy’s and got my favourite salad.

In the afternoon, I was hungry and I knew I had to eat something before our very last quality run in the training program, and I’d been craving avocado.

In the afternoon, the boy came home with bad news… we didn’t get the house we had put an offer on; we had no idea that there was another offer. I was upset; we had both already imagined ourselves living in that house, thought about furniture, thought about the great pantry they had… How it went down was a little shady, but after sulking for half hour, we started looking at other listings. We’ll find something we like even more :) So off I went to the last workout. We just had drills, a 30 minute run, and then 3 strides.

The best part of our workout was that we were going out to Bellini’s for dinner afterwards.

The rest of the week will definitely include more veggies because it’s half marathon week!! Since my calves have been bothering me, I’m going to take Thursday off running and go see the physical therapist on Friday. On Sunday, my friend C & I will be running the Austin Half Marathon!

I can’t wait :D

I will need some ideas for vegetables, though… what is your favourite vegetable and how do you like to prepare it?

WIAW #27 – Super Bowl Edition

When our friend, Alicia, invited us to her Super Bowl party, I was super stoked as we’re both Gluten-Free. A few days later, I remembered that we were going there to watch football.. and I’m not crazy about football! I was looking forward to the food though :)

I started my Super Bowl Sunday with a couple of plain Van’s Apple Cinnamon GF waffles {someone beat me to the maple syrup!}

Not too long after breakfast, the boy and I went to check out a house and talk to the realtor. We then ran a couple of errands, and then finally picked a place to have lunch. We checked out this Indian place called Naanfull; I love Indian food, and I love it even more since they have great GF otions. I chose the rice bowl with chicken, steamed vegetables, corn, and Vindaloo sauce, and cilantro chili chutney. I’m glad I got a mango lassi because I needed something sweet to put out the fire in my mouth!! It was delicious though :)

After a nap, we got ready to go to Alicia’s. I had made some sugar cookies  {I substituted all-purpose flour with Namaste Foods’ Perfect Flour Blend} the night before, and brought them over and placed them in the Gluten and Dairy Free station

Alicia was excited that I had made some Ray Rice jerseys.. he’s her favourite player.

Alicia got some snacks from a local gluten-free bakery. I popped them in the oven, and they were good.

I didn’t end up watching a lot of commercials once our friend C got there.. we just chatted in the kitchen. The fiancé and I went home during the power outage, but we were really glad the Ravens won :D
