Friday Five!

It was a short week, but it still felt like Friday took too long to arrive! This weekend, I’ll be going to visit my cousins :D I haven’t seen them in way too long!

Here’s some stuff that made my week easier!

  1. My Contigo water bottle. My aim is to drink 4 bottles a day, and it’s a lot easier to count 4 bottles vs 12 glasses! I also love that it’s got a hook so I can clip it to my purse or backpack, and it seals automatically when you’re done drinking — no spills!
  2. Trigger Point – my calves felt really tight this week, so rolling them out has made them feel a lot better!
  3. Fitbook – it’s a cute book that helps me keep track of my food and my workouts. It’s small enough to take to the gym when I’m doing weights. {P.S. it’s cheaper at Target; you can find it in the exercise video rack!}
  4. Core Power {formerly known as Honey Milk} – this stuff is delicious! One bottle and you get 20-26 grams of protein. It goes down really well :) My favourite flavour is Strawberry Banana {which is harder to find near me} and a close second is Chocolate.
  5. Spibelt – whenever I go running, I put my ID, key, and iPhone in the Spibelt. This is the waterproof version that has loops for energy gel. I never have to worry about my iPhone getting wet and it’s so light that I forget I’m even wearing it!

Without further ado, here’s what I ate today.

Breakfast: Blueberry, Pineapple, and Banana Smoothie

AM Snack: Almonds & Unsweetened Apple Sauce

Lunch: Salad with Carrots, Red Bell Pepper, Apples, & Grilled Chicken and GF Toast with Hummus

PM Snack: Edamame

While I was having my PM snack, I let the cats out. Dusty was enjoying the sunshine

Dinner: Lettuce Wraps – Ground Turkey with Veggies & Spices

How was your Wednesday?

Memorial Day Weekend

I hope you all had a good Memorial Day {if you’re in the US}.

This was our first long weekend since January, and it was long overdue!

The weekend started with an early run… this was the first time the 4 of us had run together in what seemed like forever. The weather was a little hotter than we wanted, but it was cloudy the entire time. Six miles later, we were done :)

For lunch, the boy and I went to Mighty Fine; he had the Strawberry Shake and I had the Strawberry Lemonade; of course I stole a few sips of his shake ;) I had the Junior Cheeseburger without the bun and we shared some fries.

In the afternoon, we had a pool party to attend! We chilled in the pool for a bit with our friends and had some shish kabobs for dinner.

Unfortunately, we brought a {huge} friend back home with us. They had a bunch of huge bugs up at their house — cicadas, grasshoppers, more bugs with names I don’t know.. Not sure where it went as I told the boy I wasn’t going to touch the car with the bug on it.

The boy hosted a UFC fight at home while I went out with some friends downtown on East 6th street.

On Sunday, we went for a drive and went to a friend of the boy’s BBQ. It was a beautiful day for a drive. We were there for a few hours, then we went home. We had to clean up the garage and the boy had to pack.

On Monday morning, I drove the boy to the airport; he’s on a business trip. {He wasn’t the only one that was sad}

The rest of the day, the kitties and I just chilled. Eddie was particularly lazy; I took him out to the backyard in the morning, and then he just slept on a chair, on their favourite chair, on the carpet, and back on their favourite chair.

And now it’s back to work…

{Gluten Free} Cold Overnight Oats

Overnight Oats

I hadn’t tried cold overnight oats until recently when I made Apple Cinnamon overnight oats (recipe). I prepared the recipe and the next morning, I went to try them. I admit that I was a little scared… after all, I’d only ever had hot oats. I told  myself that it really was no different than rice pudding, and I was able to have a taste with an open mind. I thought the Apple Cinnamon oats re alright, but apple cinnamon isn’t always very tasty.

I decided to give them another try with one of my favourite fruits, mango, and that did the trick! I had frozen pineapple chunks and a pineapple Chobani on hand, but you can use whatever flavour of yogurt and fruit you have available.

Ingredients
  • 1 container of flavoured Chobani Greek yogurt*
  • ⅓ cup Gluten-Free rolled oats
  • ½ cup Blue Diamond Unsweetened Almond Coconut Milk {or whatever milk you prefer}
  • 1.5 tbsp Chia seeds
  • Fruit for topping
Instructions
  1. Place the first 4 ingredients in a mason jar, put the lid on, and shake it all up.
  2. Put chopped fruit in mason jar and gently stir OR
  3. Refrigerate overnight and then stir fruit in the next morning
Notes
*You can also use plain Greek yogurt with your favourite sweetner such as Agave syrup or Stevia; mix it in with the first 4 ingredients.
